Created for accomplished musicians and beginning players alike, and perfectly designed for family singalongs, this compilation has something in it for everyone. These are the classic and memorable songs we learned around the campfire, at school, from friends, and listening to the radio—from "Danny Boy" to "Alexander’s Ragtime Band.” Arranged by theme, you’ll find Christmas and other holiday songs, cowboy and western songs, children’s songs, folk songs, barbershop songs, hymns and spirituals, blues songs, international favorites, and more. Popular tunes include "Tom Dooley," "We Three Kings," "Camptown Races," "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," "Those Were the Days," "Kum Ba Ya," "Hush Little Baby," "This Land Is Your Land," "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain," and many more. The piano arrangements and guitar chords are skillfully done and clearly laid out so that even casual players can make beautiful music.
Artist Sarah Wilkins has contributed delightful illustrations that bring these timeless songs to life. All in all, The Great Family Songbook is destined to become a treasured family heirloom.

What Customers Say About The Great Family Songbook: A Treasury of Favorite Folk Songs, Popular Tunes, Children's Melodies, International Songs, Hymns, Holiday Jingles and More for Piano and Guitar.:

The residents enjoy the music and sing along with many of the songs. I ordered this book to use during my weekly piano-playing visits to a local nursing home. The only criticism I have is that the book does not have a spiral binding; since it is fairly thick, it has to be propped open. This book provides music for many classic favorite songs in a variety of categories--children's, nostalgic, patriotic, hymns, Christmas, and American folk. The music is written at a level for an intermediate pianist, and carries the melody line in the accompaniment.
Just flipping through the pages provided a nostalgic journey as I heard the tunes in my head. It is a guide to our musical heritage and, as such, a peek at us.I like the family nature of the collection with some material for the very young and some for us who are not so young.
-----Lawrence J. The generous selection is carefully made.
As many of the other reviewers have noted, this is a spectacular collection of American songs. It is a guide to the American musical soul, to our values, our fascinations, our interests.
Epstein, author of Political Folk Music in America from Its Origins to Bob Dylan The songbook is like an old fashioned tv show, suitable for everyone in the family to enjoy together.
But beyond being simply a collection of wonderful songs, this book is fascinating at another level.
The arrangements are within reach of beginning or intermediate pianists. I gave this song book to a friend as a gift and she was very pleased to receive it. It's a good resource for sing-alongs at the piano or guitar.
How it came into being, the year, ETC.It has a great many different styles of songs and they are listed by category You can't go wrong with this book. The Great Family Songbook: A Treasury of Favorite Folk Songs, Popular Tunes, Children's Melodies, International Songs, Hymns, Holiday Jingles and More for Piano and Guitar. This songbook is great. Excellent quality, the pages are of a heavy quality. One thing that makes this book so good is that each song has a small biography of the song.
Although I normally prefer hardcover books, the only complaint I have about the book is that it's difficult to lay flat with the hardcover binding. The Great Family Songbook is a fabulous collection of songs, along with the piano and guitar music and brief descriptions of the history of each song. Otherwise, it brought back many wonderful memories from my elementary school music classes and now I look forward to teaching my own children the classic songs.I think the book would make a terrific addition to homeschool libraries for parents who want to make sure their children are also able to enjoy the folk songs, holiday favorites, classics, show tunes, and more.Sonya Haskins, author of The Homeschooler's Book of Lists I can still remember one of my favorite classes in elementary school was music class. I always loved to sing and we would sing wonderful folk songs such as:- "Skip to My Lou," - "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad," - "On Top of Old Smoky," classic patriotic songs like:- "America the Beautiful,"- "Yankee Doodle,"- "Red River Valley,"children's songs such as:- "This Old Man,"- "Old MacDonald,"- "B-I-N-G-O,"and even Christmas songs (yes, we DID celebrate Christmas when I was in school)., hymns, spirituals, international folk songs, ragtime songs, and much more.
